Boundary line of Dum Dum :

 

Eastern side  Up to Salt Water Lake City [ Salt Lake, part of Bagmari and  Beleghata].

Western side   Up to river Bhagirathi (Upper Chitpur, Cossipore, Alambazar, Baranagar Kamarhati, Belghoria, ).

Northern sideUp to Noyai Khal.

Southern side   - Village Dakshindanri [from Dakshindanri khal to Bhagirathi Khal]. To point out Dakshindanri khal is within Kolkata.

 

Mouza : Dum Dum Cantonment :

 

Consists of 84 villages ; of which ‘Horseford Land’ is the smallest in India having an area of 58 bighas [a measure of land equal to twenty kathas(720 sq.ft.)]- smallest also in India and Digla is the biggest – also in India. Of the total area of Mouza : Dum Dum Cantonment - Digla 80%, Sultanpur 15% and Kaikhali 5%.

 

Origin of naming Dum Dum :

 

In Persian language high mounds are called dumdum ; this area once was under the Mughal Emperor and in that regime Persian language was used as court language. Having many high mounds within this area was called Doomdoom ; the degenerated form of the word comes to Dumduma and thereafter to Dum Dum. Of course, there are many other views ( near about Ten ) of the origin of naming Dum Dum.
